On the Issues

What is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction?

Customer service and efficient tax collection in all its forms is my vital concern. Historically, Arlington utilized nine archaic, dysfunctional revenue-processing systems that did not interact. I have initiated a five-year program, nearing completion, to replace them with a single customer-based system. Doing so exponentially improves customer service. My office has partnered with Arlington banks and Global Express outlets, providing taxpayers with more than 100 locations throughout Arlington to pay taxes and other fees. Our award-winning Internet Payment Portal offers similar convenience to the computer savvy. This eliminates travel to, and congestion at, the Government Center without charging our customers.

Why should voters elect you?

I have lowered the tax delinquency rate from more than 9 percent to a half percent, saving taxpayers more than $128 million.
