By Ed O'Keefe: The RNC's independent expenditure unit will spend $18 million in the coming weeks to ask battleground state voters a simple question: Do you really want Barack Obama in the Oval Office? With a camera slowly zooming in on the Oval Office desk and chair, an announcer says: "Meltdown. Foreclosure. Pensions, savings wiped out. And now our nation considers elevating one of the least experienced people ever to run for president. Barack Obama: He hasn't had executive experience. This crisis would be Obama's first crisis. In this chair." The RNC IE unit will air the ad over the course of the next 18 days in Colorado, Florida, Indiana, North Carolina, Missouri, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Virginia. Even though the IE is prohibited from coordinating with the RNC and the McCain campaign, the large ad buy provides needed advertising support to the McCain campaign as the Obama campaign continues to overwhelmingly outspend the Republicans. "Other advertising decisions will be made on a state-by-state basis in the final two weeks of this campaign," said spokesman Brad Todd in a statement. The IE has aired other ads raising questions about Obama's tax and spending proposals and one that suggested Republicans opposed the economic rescue package, despite McCain's support for the measure.
