political action committee

Defined
A group representing the interests of a company, trade group, or similar organization that raises funds and gives them to particular candidates. Many establish themselves before a candidate announces his intention to run. An organization becomes a "political action committee" under the Federal Election Campaign Act by receiving contributions or reporting expenditures beyond $1,000.
