hard money

Defined
Direct contributions to a candidate’s campaign or to a political party.

The Obama campaign revealed that it has received 333,235 checks from supporters, but it is hard to tell if more checks mean more hard money. A large number of donors can indicate signifcant grassroots support, but not necessarily a huge source of cash. ()
