swing voter
Defined
A voter who is not extremely loyal to a particular party and may cross party lines to select a candidate.
Example
A recent survey by Democratic pollster Celinda Lake showed there may be more swing voters in Democratic-held House districts than widely acknowledged. Survey respondents revealed skepticism over how electable Sens. Clinton (N.Y.) or Obama (Ill.) would be if either wins the party's presidential nomination, a finding that could possibly hurt Democrat incumbents' reelection chances to Congress.
