Republican Party
Defined
One of the two prominent political parties in the United States. The party was formed in the early 1850s by anti-slavery activists. Abraham Lincoln was the first Republican president elected in 1860. Today, it is considered to be the more “conservative” political party on both social and fiscal issues, with ties to evangelical Christians and big business.
