In 2005, Bresler & Reiner went through a growth spurt. The mini-boom was aided in November by the company's placement of $40 million of securities that "will help us grow," said Sidney M. Bresler, the company's chief executive.
The company acquired several office buildings last year: In February it bought a 173,000-square-foot building in Wilmington, Del. In April, it bought two office buildings in Pennsylvania, one in Exton and the other in Doylestown.
Last June, the company added to its real estate portfolio two office buildings in Chantilly containing a total of 88,000 square feet.
In May, Bresler & Reiner invested $8 million in a Pennsylvania condominium development company. That company, Philadelphia Condo Investors LP, is moving to develop a variety of properties in downtown Philadelphia and elsewhere in that region.
The company also remained one of three developers committed to develop the Waterside Mall site in the District's Southwest. The developers in recent months have proposed adding more housing to the mixed-use development to compensate for the loss last year of Fannie Mae, which had planned to be the anchor tenant for the complex until it ran into massive accounting problems.
