In January, Bowl America opened its 19th center, Bowl America Short Pump, in Glen Allen, Va., near Richmond. Completion of the $5 million center was delayed several weeks because the local utility provider sent its crews to the Gulf Coast for rebuilding efforts, leaving Bowl America to wait for power installation. The new bowling center added 40 lanes to the business, bringing the company's total lanes to 756.
Many of the company's locations offer "cosmic bowling," which the company describes as a "glow-in-the-dark party" with rock music, laser beams and fog.
Higher energy prices that raised the cost of operations were among the biggest challenges for the company last year.
