Business is booming for CACI. The government continued to invest in new technology systems — particularly for its intelligence agencies — last year, putting CACI in the sweet spot for lucrative contracts.
For its fiscal year ended June 30 2005, CACI posted $1.62 billion in revenue, up 42 percent from $1.15 billion the previous year. The company's profit for the year rose to $85.3 million, up 34 percent.
In August CACI named Paul M. Cofoni, former president of Computer Sciences Corp.'s federal division, to be president of subsidiary CACI Inc., making him one of the potential successors to chairman and chief executive J.P. "Jack" London. And in March 2005, William M. Fairl, a seven-year veteran of the firm, was named chief operating officer of CACI's U.S. operations.
CACI won a number of big contracts last year, including a $107 million, five-year deal to provide engineering and technical support to the Navy, and a $188 million contract with the Naval Sea Systems Command to support mine countermeasure programs.
In December, CACI announced it would buy "substantially all" of the assets of Information Systems Support Inc., a Gaithersburg government contractor with about $200 million in revenue for 2005. CACI later delayed the deal to renegotiate the purchase price. In March of this year, the company completed its acquisition of ISS, adding approximately 1,000 employees to its payroll, about 70 percent of them with security clearances. Terms were not disclosed. And in October, CACI acquired National Security Research Inc., a 100-person Arlington firm, for an undisclosed amount.
