Demand surged for CompuDyne's products through much of 2005. During the year, CompuDyne locked in contracts with the Los Angeles school system's police department as well as the cities of Irving, Tex., and Albuquerque. But the company nonetheless ran into problems as the year went on.
In May, Nasdaq informed the company that it would be delisted because it had not filed information about internal accounting control measures as mandated by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. The company appealed and filed the information in June. The company said costs associated with the new filing requirements were higher than it had anticipated. Nasdaq removed the delisting threat in July.
In September, CompuDyne bought Xanalys Corp. of Waltham, Mass., which provides software that helps investigators collect and share information.
By year-end, the company reported results that suggested a slowdown in state and local spending for security. Losses for the year widened to $8.7 million from $8.2 million the previous year. Revenue was $141.7 million, down from $142.8 million.
Still, fourth-quarter results improved significantly and CompuDyne's stock rose. The company said it expected the improvement to continue in 2006.
