About Duratek Inc.

Industry: Government Services | Category: Public Companies

Duratek agreed in February of this year to be bought by EnergySolutions, a privately held Salt Lake City nuclear-waste disposal firm, for $22 a share, or $396 million. After the deal closes, most of the company's local employees are expected to remain at Duratek's Maryland office.
The sale follows a gradual pullout in recent years of Duratek's major investor, the Carlyle Group, which sold back its shares to the company as its executives stepped down from Duratek's board. Services provided by Duratek will complement EnergySolutions, which serves mostly as a processing facility for low-level radioactive waste.
Duratek's profit fell in 2005, compared with the previous year, mostly because several multi-month contracts expired and the company had not yet picked up revenue from new contracts. The company also began offering a new service to help commercial utilities store high-level material on site.
