FTI's revenue last year increased 26 percent from 2004. It continued to benefit from work advising on mega-mergers; it invested in an overseas office; and it made several acquisitions.
Among FTI's large jobs last year, it advised one of the parties in SBC Communications Inc.'s purchase of AT&T Corp. and in Verizon Communications Inc.'s deal to buy MCI Inc. FTI declined to say which companies hired it, but the company said it helped its clients make their cases before the Justice Department, which was reviewing the deals on antitrust grounds.
Looking for more space, FTI moved its headquarters to Baltimore from Annapolis last year. Most of its operations remain in Annapolis. The company also opened its first office in London, which company executives say they hope will lead to more overseas work. Currently, less than 10 percent of FTI's revenue is from outside of the United States. FTI says it also foresees business opportunities in South America and the Pacific Rim.
The company announced four acquisitions worth a total of $150 million last year, including a deal to purchase Ringtail Solutions Group, a Williamsburg developer of legal software, for $35 million. More acquisitions are expected this year, particularly in overseas markets.
