This was a banner year for ManTech, which benefited from the government's war on terrorism, with $1.94 billion in contracts in 2005, a 51 percent increase from 2004. The company now has a contract backlog of $2.34 billion. Its revenue reached $980 million, a nearly 20 percent increase from the year before. The majority of the revenue came from contracts with the departments of Defense and Homeland Security and intelligence agencies; those agencies made up 94 percent of ManTech's business.
Among its new contracts in 2005 were a $34.9 million award from the Navy to design and develop new military products; a $27.5 million contract from the Air Force to provide security services for the Joint Strike Fighter program; and a $27.7 million award from the Army Field Support Command to manage property in Afghanistan.
In June, the company completed its purchase of Alexandria-based Gray Hawk Systems for $100 million. ManTech noted in announcing the acquisition that more than 90 percent of Gray Hawk's 500 employees are cleared for national security, with more than two-thirds at higher levels. One of ManTech's continuing challenges as it expands is finding top-level engineers and employees who can meet rigorous security clearance standards.
