NCI went public in October 2005 after 15 years in business. In its first day of trading, its 5.15 million shares of stock hit the market at $10.50 and rose $1.67, or 16 percent, to close at $12.17. It has climbed as high as $15.38 since then.
About two-thirds of the firm's revenue comes from defense and intelligence agencies, according to its filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
In November, NCI was selected as one of three prime contractors to win the Army's Total Engineering and Integration Services contract. The contract's total value for all three contractors is about $800 million. NCI will provide information systems engineering and information technology support, a spokeswoman said.
The contract is the follow-on to a predecessor arrangement. NCI ended 2005 with prime positions on six large government-wide acquisition contracts, which give the company an advantage in getting future work on information technology, systems engineering and information protection projects with the federal government.
