The Ourisman dealership group had continued steady growth last year but fell short of reaching a revenue goal of $1 billion.
Ourisman sold 36,000 vehicles in 2005, up about 10 percent from the previous year. Ourisman's revenue jumped 13 percent, to nearly $900 million, according to Mandell J. Ourisman, chairman of the family-run, privately held company.
Ourisman said he expects to hit the billion-dollar mark with added revenue from two new franchises the company acquired last year. They are Ourisman Hyundai and Ourisman Mazda, both in Laurel. Ourisman ranks as one of the nation's top 25 dealers by number of vehicles sold, according to Automotive News.
Ourisman said that in 2006, his company will focus on acquiring real estate needed for future franchises and growth for existing ones. He said that he is seeking to expand Ourisman's Toyota stores in Chantilly and Fairfax City and that at least one further franchise acquisition is under consideration.
Mandell J. Ourisman is the son of founder Benjamin Ourisman, who started the company with a Chevrolet dealership in the District. His sons and stepsons oversee the company's stores.
