EPlus has bought 10 companies in the past 10 years, but that acquisition strategy slowed in 2005. Last year it had plans to buy Amherst Technologies, a bankrupt information technology services provider and reseller, but the deal was canceled less than two weeks after it was announced. EPlus officials said they continued to look for other companies that could be a good fit.
EPlus also was focused on defending its technology patents. It has sued SAP AG, a large German software company. EPlus claimed that SAP had infringed on three of its software patents. EPlus spent $1.6 million in its fiscal third quarter ended Dec. 31 pursuing that case and said it expected to continue spending at the same level until the suit is resolved.
Last year, the company settled a similar patent infringement lawsuit against software maker Ariba of Sunnyvale, Calif., and collected $37 million. The settlement allowed the two companies to continue using three business process patents without paying fees to each other.
This year the company said it will release an automated procurement process.
