Ritz has been busy trying to compete in an increasingly crowded market by offering enhanced photo-developing options.
Ritz is under greater competitive pressure, as many camera owners opt to print photos from their own printers or turn to discount drug retailers such as CVS, Walgreens and Rite Aid. To compete, Ritz is offering bigger prints at lower prices.
"We're trying to find the prices that customers feel is the right price to pay for making their pictures," said David Ritz, Ritz's chairman and chief executive.
In December, Ritz entered a partnership with Eastman Kodak Co. in which Ritz retail stores will have Kodak digital-photo kiosk machines to allow photographers to bring their digital-picture disks into the store and print their photos in eight seconds.
Ritz has 1,075 camera stores and plans to open 30 more by the end of the year. The company also owns about 125 Boater's World stores and plans to open another 10 stores by the end of the year.
Ritz opened its first boating store in 1988, a decision made by David Ritz, an avid boater.
