SI International had another solid year, with revenue rising by 52 percent compared with the previous year. The company also expanded its portfolio of services through the acquisition of two information technology providers. SI International has acquired eight companies since forming in 1998.
With more than 4,000 employees, the vast majority with security clearances, the company continues to focus on what it calls "urgent national priorities": federal information technology modernization; the military's shift to "net-centric warfare," including military satellite systems; homeland security intelligence and information sharing; and government outsourcing.
In that spirit, SI International bought Shenandoah Electronic Intelligence Inc. for $75 million in February 2005. Shenandoah, known as SEI, provides outsourcing services mainly for the Homeland Security Department.
In February, SI International announced that it had agreed to buy Zen Technology Inc. for $60 million. Primarily a defense contractor, Zen also provides managed network services, software development and consulting to other government agencies. About half its employees have security clearances.
SI International has boosted revenue with several recent government contracts. In January, the company announced that it had secured a deal with the State Department worth as much as $84 million to manage more than 20 million immigrant visa transactions. Last October, the company announced a $50 million indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract with the Treasury Department for information technology services.
Company revenue grew to $398 million in fiscal 2005 from $262 million the year before. At the same time, the number of employees almost doubled, mostly from the company's acquisitions.
