TVI was involved with Hurricane Katrina relief efforts in 2005. The company established an operations center in Louisiana and was awarded contracts by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the American Red Cross and Army National Guard to provide portable shower systems and shelters and to help relocate evacuees. In November, the company acquired SafetyTech International, which designs and manufactures respirators.
But there were signs of a slowdown in purchases of emergency equipment by various levels of government: TVI's profit in 2005 was $5 million, down from $6.4 million in 2004. Revenue last year was $32.8 million, down from $37.9 million.
