Watson Wyatt Worldwide, the principal subsidiary of Watson Wyatt & Co. Holdings, merged in July with its British-based European business partner, Watson Wyatt LLP. The Washington-based Holdings company had owned 20 percent of the British firm and bought the rest for $394 million in cash and stock. The two companies had operated since 1995 in an alliance called Watson Wyatt Worldwide. In January, the combined firm took the name Watson Wyatt Worldwide Inc. and moved its headquarters from the District to Arlington. The firm has about 6,000 employees in 32 countries, up from 3,875 at the end of its fiscal year.
The acquisition was completed after Watson Wyatt & Co. Holdings' 2005 fiscal year ended June 30. That firm's revenue rose 5 percent and profit increased 3 percent over the prior year.
In October, the company acquired Davis, Conder, Enderle & Sloan, a Chicago-based actuarial and retirement benefits consulting firm.
Watson Wyatt has been off to a solid start in the first two quarters of fiscal 2006. In February, it projected revenue this year of at least $1.22 billion.
