In December 2006, Bowl America said it would close its Falls Church bowling center, which opened in 1960, and build a new set of lanes across the street. The company plans to close the existing Falls Church facility and open the new one on successive days.
In his annual letter to shareholders in September, Goldberg wrote that revenue from bowling and concessions rose during the fiscal year ended in July but that earnings did not grow due to rising costs. Revenue was $30.3 million for 2006, up from $28.6 million in 2005. Profit was $3.6 million, down from $3.8 million the previous year and $4.7 million in 2004.
In its annual report, Bowl America said it is trying to expand but may not be able to afford to do so.
