After a robust 2005, CACI had a significant and unexpected drop in business from the Pentagon and other federal agencies in 2006, leading it to lower its 2007 earnings forecast. Company officials attributed the slowdown to the change of control in Congress in January and the rethinking of funding commitments, a shift of Pentagon funds toward Iraq and Afghanistan, and increased contract competition.
Despite lower operating margins, chairman and chief executive J.P. "Jack" London told analysts in February that CACI thinks the "current slowdown is temporary" and "our long-term future bright."
In the past year, the firm won a prime contract with the Army for a field support program.
It also won positions — or the right to compete for actual assignments — on several major contracts to support federal agencies over the next five to 10 years, including with the Department of Homeland Security.
