Clark Construction celebrated its 100th anniversary last year. Its largest project now is building the roughly $600 million Washington Nationals ballpark in Southeast along the Anacostia River, which is expected to be completed in spring 2008. These days, cranes loom over the work area, where 341,000 cubic yards of dirt have been dug out and the steel and concrete are in. The project is expected to create a boom in residential, housing and office development in what is now a run-down area of boarded-up storefronts and empty lots.
Among Clark's other big projects are the Transportation Department headquarters near the new stadium; Waterview, a 24-story office and condominium project in Arlington; a retail complex called DC USA at 14th and Irving streets NW; and an office building at 51 Louisiana Ave. NW in the District. It's also expanding McCormick Place in Chicago and working on Pasadena City Hall in California.
