Founded by a Confederate Civil War amputee who designed his own artificial limb, Hanger is a market leader in prosthetics sales and prosthetics patient care.
The company had record sales of $599 million in 2006, an increase of 4 percent over 2005 sales.

It partnered with international manufacturer Ossur on the Power Knee, the first prosthetic leg to incorporate motors, robotics and artificial intelligence. The company said a refinancing in 2006 gave it the stability and flexibility to acquire additional practices and expand its offerings. Acquisitions made possible by the refinancing included the Regional Artificial Limb & Brace in Fargo, N.D., and a care center, Temple Medical, in Meridian, Miss.
