In 2006, the company signed its first Blue Cross Blue Shield client, Iowa-based Wellmark. The contract is the company's largest and its first to represent more than 1 million members.
HealthExtras also retained two state governments as clients. Nevada signed another four-year contract, while Louisiana expects to finalize its contract in July. In March, Ohio selected the firm to administer a pharmacy benefit program for more than 132,000 beneficiaries.
The revolving door spun in the executive suites. Richard W. Hunt was named chief financial officer in June, taking over for Michael P. Donovan, who filled the newly created position of executive vice president for corporate development. But this March, the company announced that Donovan was resuming his former duties in addition to his new ones. Hunt is moving on to pursue a financial position in a venture capital company.
In November, HealthExtras acquired RXx Pharmacy Solutions, a subsidiary of HMA. RXx provides pharmacy benefit management services, with a focus on clients in Arizona, Nevada and Hawaii.
