In April 2006, Inova announced its intent to merge with the Prince William Health System. The organizations are awaiting final approval, expected this fall. With the merger, Inova would invest more than $200 million to expand projects at Prince William Hospital and in Gainesville, Haymarket and other Prince William locations, some of the fastest growing areas in the nation. It would be the second merger in two years for Inova, which joined with Loudoun Hospital in 2005.
Randall L. Kelley was named senior vice president of Inova Health System and chief executive of Inova Loudoun Hospital in June, while Mark S. Stauder became Inova Health System's chief operating officer in September.
The health system launched a campaign with BB&T Bank and Marymount University to tackle the nursing shortage. BB&T is providing Marymount with a $750,000 endowment to fund scholarships. Each year, the interest earned on those funds will be matched by Inova's foundation.
Meanwhile, Inova Loudoun Hospital earned an American Nurses Credentialing Center Magnet designation, the highest institutional honor for nursing excellence.
