Katy is the new conglomerate on the block. The company, which is made up of 10 subsidiaries, moved its headquarters to Arlington last year from Middlebury, Conn., putting it closer to its operations in Georgia and Indiana.
Last November, Katy sold its British consumer plastics business to Jardin International Holding.
Over the past several years, Katy's raw material costs have shot up, driven by an increase in the price of copper used to manufacture electric tools and the plastic resins used to make garbage cans, buckets and plastic tools.
The company has passed on some of the material increases to customers, but it said it is trying to cut costs in other areas and fight competition from Asian manufacturers.
Katy plans to consolidate the customer service operations of many of its subsidiaries this year to save money.
This April, the company was delisted from the New York Stock Exchange because its market capitalization was less than $75 million for 30 days. The company's shares now trade on the Over the Counter Bulletin Board. The company's net loss decreased to $12 million in 2006 from $13.2 million in 2005.
