After going public in 2005, NeuStar spent 2006 expanding in several areas. Company officials attributed revenue growth largely to contracts that allow people to transfer their phone numbers from one phone to another. The company processed 234 million such transactions, a 37 percent increase over 2005, officials said.
NeuStar expanded its range of domain-name system services by acquiring UltraDNS of Reston. It also acquired Followap for $139 million in cash, adding an "end-to-end solution for the routing and delivery of mobile instant messaging," the company said. In March, NeuStar announced that president and chief operating officer Michael Lach was leaving. Lawrence J. Bouman replaced him as chief operating officer.
The company added five members to its board in June and July: Hellene Runtagh, former chief executive and president of Berwind Group; Joel Friedman, retired president of Accenture's Business Process Outsourcing organization; Michael Rowny, former president and chief executive of MCI's International Ventures, Alliances, and Correspondent group; Ross Ireland, former senior executive vice president of services and chief technology officer of SBC Communications. The fifth, Andre Dahan, former president and chief executive of mobile multimedia services at AT&T Wireless, signed on in June but resigned in April after accepting a position as chief executive of Comverse Technology.
