Opnet continues to invest heavily in its sales and marketing operations, and a top priority is increasing the company's international presence. During fiscal 2006, which ended March 31, 2006, Opnet earned $2.1 million on $76.1 million in revenue, a record for the company.
Shares got a boost in April when Opnet said it had reached an amicable settlement with Compuware, a Michigan company that sued Opnet for patent infringement in 2004. Analysts said the settlement would significantly reduce expenses for Opnet.
International revenue, which makes up one-fifth of company earnings, increased 34 percent last year, and Opnet said sales outside of the United States are expected to make up a significant portion of total revenue in the future.
For the quarter ended Dec. 31, profit rose to $3 million, up from $1.16 million a year earlier, on $24.5 million in revenue, up from $20 million a year ago. The company attributed some of that growth to an increase in consulting and professional services revenue for commercial clients.
A distribution agreement signed in 2005 with Cisco Systems continues to be a strong sales platform for the company.
In March of this year, the company's subsidiary Opnet Analysis was awarded $2.1 million for the first year of a two-year contract to continue to work as prime contractor on the Defense Department's Network Warfare Simulation program, a software application for analyzing defense-related network communications.
In July, the company became part of the Russell 3000 Index.
