Optelecom acquired fiber-optic and Internet networking company NKF Electronics in 2005 and said it had fully integrated NFK into its business during 2006, significantly boosting overall revenue. Revenue for the year ended Dec. 31 rose 17 percent.
Optelecom-NFK announced several contracts, including a $410,000 deal with the military to use its Internet video technology for urban warfare training. The Beijing metro system said it would use Optelecom's technology for a video surveillance and communications system serving two of its transportation lines. Terms of the Beijing contract were not disclosed. Other contracts included one with Saudi Technology Engineering Systems Associated, which bought $800,000 worth of advanced video over the Internet and security and surveillance networking technology.
The company appointed Steven Tamburo as chief financial officer, replacing James Armstrong, who was named executive vice president and chief operating officer of Optelecom's North American operations in late 2005.
