SRA continued to capitalize on growing demand for high technology by intelligence and national security agencies in fiscal 2006. Revenue rose 34 percent, to more than $1 billion for the first time. Profit climbed 8 percent. The company also continued to grow through acquisition.
In October, SRA bought RABA Technologies, which specializes in providing technical services related to national security. At the same time, SRA won $1.8 billion in new contracts from the Department of Homeland Security, the Pentagon and other agencies.
Leadership shifted in February, when president and chief executive Renato A. DiPentima announced he would retire after 12 years at the company. Officials said Stanton D. Sloane, former executive vice president for integrated systems and solutions at Lockheed Martin, would succeed DiPentima, who is to stay on as a member of SRA's board.
SRA faces a tough market ahead. The company's stock dropped sharply after officials lowered profit forecasts. Company officials said challenging market conditions have led to contract delays and pricing pressure on core business. That's due in part to the Defense Department's efforts to focus spending on the war in Iraq.
