Industry: Government And Professional Services | Category: Public Companies

Four decades after its founding as a small consulting firm, Stanley offered its shares to the public, raising $81.9 million to pay down its senior debt and to fund acquisitions.
The company's largest client is the Defense Department, which accounted for 61 percent of its revenue last year. Another 19 percent came from a contract with the State Department to process passport-support services. That contract is up for competitive re-bidding this year.
In public filings, Stanley cautioned that the concentration of its revenue in those contracts represented risks to its business. Changes in spending related to U.S. military operations in Afghanistan and Iraq could affect the company.
But if defense IT spending continues to grow, Stanley could benefit. The company has been acquiring smaller, regional information technology companies to position itself in areas that will see more military spending because of the base realignment and closure process.
Earlier this year, Stanley bought Techrizon, an IT company with 300 employees in Oklahoma, Georgia, New Jersey, Virginia, Washington, South Korea and Iraq. In 2006, the company acquired Morgan Research of Huntsville, Ala.; its clients include the Army and government agencies, including NASA.
