The family-owned company boasts of having "the first and only newsgathering triopoly in the nation's capital," with the Politico Web site and newspaper joining WJLA (Channel 7) and NewsChannel 8. Allbritton Communications, founded in 1975 by Joe L. Allbritton, also owns eight other ABC-affiliated stations.
