The oldest continuously operating bank in Virginia, Burke & Herbert opened its 18th branch last year. The bank created the position of vice president of business development, aimed at developing commercial clients. It also spent months developing a strategic plan, using focus groups of customers, bank employees and board directors to study bank operations and products. Completed in December, the plan sets new goals in such areas as marketing, communication, customer service and profitability.
