The credit card company has been making strides to diversify in recent years, adding banks, a mortgage lender, an auto lender and other financial services to its portfolio. But the growing number of delinquencies and defaults caused by the credit crunch has overshadowed those efforts in the past year. Capital One experienced declining profit for much of the year and posted its first quarterly loss. The company was forced to shut down GreenPoint Mortgage, its mortgage lender.
