Darcars Automotive Group, the 18th-largest dealership chain in the United States, is a homegrown operation that marked its 30th anniversary last year. (Its first dealership opened on 7-7-77.) Founder John R. Darvish, his daughter and two sons own and run the 26-dealership chain. Annual sales have grown to about $1 billion, but Darvish still carries in his pocket his first paycheck ($2.94) from the dealership Banning & Sons Motors — which he now owns.
