Gate Gourmet is the world's largest airline caterer, serving more than 250 carriers. An international company, it is run by David N. Siegel, former chief executive of US Airways, out of Reston. In 2007, Merrill Lynch bought out a stake held by the private-equity firm Texas Pacific Group. Gate Gourmet then went on a tear, snapping up airline service companies and forming other strategic alliances, prompting it to create an umbrella brand dubbed Gategroup.
