The giant Inova Health System operates six hospitals as well as other health-care facilities including nursing homes and mental health programs. Fair Oaks Hospital last year converted its emergency department's paper patient charts to electronic records. By the end of this year, all Inova's emergency records are expected to be linked online. Inova is extending outpatient services, and it is battling Hospital Corporation of America for the right to build a hospital in Loudoun County.
