The Ratner Cos. is the largest family-owned chain of hair salons in the country, and its founders, two hairstylists working in Washington, created the Hair Cuttery brand. The company also operates salons under other names, including Bubbles, Salon Cielo and Spa, ColorWorks, and Salon Plaza. Ratner recently sold 129 Hair Cuttery shops to salon giant Regis, leaving it with about 820 locations. The company plans to open another 50 by October.
