Sunrise Senior Living, the nation's largest assisted-living provider, continued to reel from about $170 million worth of accounting irregularities first revealed in 2006. Under increasing criticism from shareholders, the company added independent directors to its board and continued a legal fight with its ousted chief financial officer. The company let go three other top executives after discovering what it said was inappropriate accounting; an internal board review found that allegations of insider trading and improper options backdating were unfounded.
