It has not been an easy year for Trex, which produces decking, railing and fencing materials from recycled plastic and wood. The company said in November that some of the products manufactured at its Fernley, Nev., plant were beginning to peel, and it set aside $45 million to cover future losses. Meanwhile, the housing slump has cut into sales. In September, the company suspended operations at a factory in Olive Branch, Miss., that had opened only three years earlier.
