The Red Cross responds to about 70,000 disasters a year, providing humanitarian care. It's also the largest U.S. supplier of blood and blood products. Last year, the Red Cross named Gail J. McGovern chief executive, citing her experience in large organizations such as AT&T and Fidelity Investments. In June, Johnson & Johnson dropped a trademark lawsuit against the nonprofit over its red and white emblem.
