Covington & Burling's work grew with New Deal regulation and antitrust cases after World War II. Fast forward to 2008, when it opened a Beijing office, expanded its intellectual property practice, and opened offices in Silicon Valley and San Diego. The former home to the U.S. and D.C. attorneys general, the firm this year added former Homeland Security secretary Michael Chertoff and former Justice Department acting antitrust chief Deborah Garza.
