Through its Hair Cuttery, Bubbles, Salon Cielo, ColorWorks and SalonPlaza brands, Ratner is the largest family-owned-and-operated hair salon chain. The 35-year-old company, which also owns Cibu products, has almost 1,000 salons in 16 states. Susan Gustafson, who became the company's first president outside the Ratner family in 2007, has said the salons have been affected by customers coloring their hair at home instead of paying to have it done.
