The supplier of enriched uranium has invested about $1.2 billion in its American Centrifuge Plant, designed to use a more environmentally friendly enrichment technology. It is still working to get a government loan guarantee and has scaled back spending to deal with the economic downturn. It is part of the Megatons to Megawatts program, under which bomb-grade uranium in Russia is turned into fuel for U.S. nuclear power plants.
