Simple Syrup
The Washington Post, August 24, 2005
- Cuisine: American
- Course: Beverage
Summary:
Simple syrup is often used in drink recipes because it dissolves more readily than sugar, especially in cold drinks. The ratio of sugar to water can vary, depending on the desired use.
Makes 1 1/4 cups
Ingredients:
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup sugar
Directions:
In a small saucepan over medium-high heat, bring the water to a boil. Add the sugar and cook, stirring constantly, until it has dissolved, about 30 seconds. Reduce the heat to low and simmer until just slightly thickened, about 5 minutes.
Remove from the heat; set aside to cool. May cover tightly and refrigerate for up to 3 weeks.
