Kyoto Cocktail

Summary:

Named as a nod to the fact that Midori was developed in Japan, this is probably the most elegant use of the melon liqueur. Don't be fooled by this pretty, bright green cocktail: It packs just as much punch as a typical martini. For a fun, colorful garnish, try a skewer of tiny canteloupe, honeydew and watermelon balls.

Ingredients:

  • Ice
  • 1 1/2 ounces gin
  • 3/4 ounce melon-flavored liqueur, such as Midori
  • 1/4 ounce dry vermouth
  • Lemon wedge
  • 2 to 3 assorted melon balls (such as cantaloupe, honeydew and watermelon), skewered

Directions:

Fill a cocktail shaker two-thirds full with ice. Add the gin, melon-flavored liqueur and vermouth, then squeeze the juice from the lemon wedge into the shaker. Stir and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with skewered melon balls.
