Unusual Negroni

The Washington Post, October 3, 2007
  • Course: Beverage
  • Features: Fast

Summary:

This variation on the Negroni cocktail is designed to convert the vodka drinker into a gin drinker. Unlike the traditional Negroni recipe, which uses Campari, this drink calls for Aperol, a bright-orange, low-proof Italian aperitif with a zesty, bittersweet orange taste. Sweet vermouth is replaced by Lillet Blanc. The result is a softer, more approachable cocktail that also looks pretty in the glass.

1 serving

Ingredients:

  • Ice
  • 1 ounce gin
  • 1 ounce Aperol
  • 1 ounce Lillet Blanc
  • Orange slice, for garnish

Directions:

Fill a mixing glass two-thirds full with ice, then add the gin, Aperol and Lillet Blanc. Stir vigorously, then strain into a martini glass. Garnish with the orange slice.
