Margarita

The Washington Post, January 23, 2008
  • Course: Beverage
  • Features: Fast

Summary:

Spirits columnist Jason Wilson recommends using a good-value reposado tequila, such as Sauza Hornitos, along with a healthy dose of Cointreau (this drink will be lime green in color). You can also try a silver or blanco tequila with Grand Marnier or Bauchant Napoleon Liqueur (these will have a more yellow hue). Play with the amount of orange liqueur to fit your taste; just don't skimp on it. And whatever you do, don't ever use a bottled Margarita mix.

1 serving

Ingredients:

  • Large-grained salt
  • Ice
  • 1 1/2 ounces tequila
  • 3/4 to 1 ounce orange-flavored liqueur, such as triple sec, Cointreau or Grand Marnier
  • 1 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice

Directions:

Wet and salt the rim of a cocktail (martini) glass. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the tequila, orange-flavored liqueur and lime juice; shake well and strain into the prepared glass.
