Spirits
- Course: Beverage
- Features: Fast
Summary:
This variation on a Manhattan, originally created at New York's Milk & Honey, is one of the iconic drinks of the "aughts" and their cocktail renaissance. It is the cousin of the Greenpoint (see related recipe online); instead of Chartreuse it calls for maraschino liqueur (which is not to be confused with the juice from maraschino cherries).
1 serving
Ingredients:
- Ice
- 2 ounces rye whiskey
- 1/2 ounce Punt e Mes (an Italian vermouth)
- 1/4 ounce maraschino liqueur, preferably Luxardo (see headnote)
- Maraschino cherry or preserved cherry, for garnish (see related recipe)
Directions:
Fill a mixing glass halfway with ice. Add the rye whiskey, Punt e Mes and maraschino liqueur. Stir vigorously for 30 seconds, then strain into a chilled cocktail (martini) glass.
Garnish with the cherry.
